   And why wake the passengers at all before planetfall? Why transport all   
   those luxuries through space when the passengers are asleep most of the   
   time?   
      
   AFAIR the passengers were more business or immigrant types, not the   
   typical luxury cruiser types. Today, they'd probably fly charter or   
   business class, not 1st class.
