   TCM is showing two James Caan sf movies, "Rollerball" and "Countdown".  (I   
   suppose "Alien Nation" is too new to be a Classic Movie, or, more likely, they   
   didn't buy the rights from Fox.)   
      
   "Countdown" (1967), based on a 1964 novel, _The Pilgrim Project_ by Hank   
   Searls, essentially became alternate history while it was being made -- aside   
   from the overestimation of the Soviet ability to put a man on the Moon -- in   
   deciding Gemini craft    
   would be adapted to a quick lunar lander rather than continuing the Apollo   
   development.
