|    Taiwan a thorny issue    |

From: ScottW48@hotmail.com              I was reading/watching a discussion on a military site mostly devoted to tech       development and since a lot of our tech development is all about China and       their intent to retake Taiwan they get pulled together.              So the vast strategy was almost all justified and predicated on deterrence of       China. Since successful deterrence is largely based upon the premise that the       aggressor will ultimately fail...the question quickly turns from the tech to       what it will take to        win the war. The conclusion was that if China succeeds in their initial       invasion of Taiwan and establishes at least partial occupation (and it's hard       to see why they might fail) what allied forces would be available and/or       required to come to their        rescue.              Conclusion...the combined reserves of the US, South Korea, the Philippines,       and Japan might have a chance to at least match China's numbers. Now how       you're going to get them on Taiwan and provide the necessary logistics all       within 100 miles of a Chinese        coast packed with missiles while not trying to escalate this debacle by       attacking China directly (as we refuse to do in Ukraine) makes the entire       prospect an insane proposition.               So we need an alternative solution and being solutions oriented I'm going to       offer an idea. I call it Israel 2.0. Jews needed a new home post WWII.        Taiwan chinese who don't want to lose their freedom under a repressive       communist takeover need a new        home as well.              I suggest Australia. They have the space. They need an injection of       intelligent and entrepreneurial minded people. And they're probably the       closest option. And it's largely populated by "settlers" which the left has       already determined have no        real right to the lands they're born in...so what's wrong with adding another       20M to the meager 25M currently there?       I see it as their duty to the planet and take one for the team.              ScottW              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
