I would like to add one more concept to the 'restoration vs. creation' path
in this hobby. The brute fact of the matter is that there are, in tubes
anyway, no new concepts since perhaps the 1970s, stretching it, perhaps the
   80s. Yes, there are larger
tubes, more powerful tubes, tubes that have a greater range, perhaps. But
effectively there is nothing new under the sun. What remains to the hobbyist
is to execute established concepts with greater and greater elegance or
   refinement. And the law of
   diminishing returns applies.

Starting with an established platform - even one that has been executed at the
margins, hamstrung by bean counters or worse - allows one to take a system
that already works and improve it to where it, if not quite SOTA, is at least
   fit for polite society.
To this day I am impressed and admire Patrick Turner's remake of the Dynaco
ST70. Something with in the reach of most of us who (at least) pretend to know
one end of a soldering iron from another.

I also did a job during last 3 years on a pair of lesser known Dynaco MkIV see
   my page at http://www.turneraudio.com.au/Dynaco-mkIV-reformed.html

I don't get here as often as I should, but regards to all......
