From: harvey50120@micro.net              I have owned the Zoom H2 since they were first on the market. About       three years ago, I made a deluxe wind cover for it and used it for       nature recording. It did very well. Being older, there was some noise       mixed into the captures and I was able to nearly negate it by carefully       applying NR using Adobe Audition. Of course I left a little bit in to       prevent too much frequency response reduction and artifacts. That is       until a year ago when I discovered online noise reduction algorithms.       The results I achieve with those blow away anything I ever did in       software. Anyway, getting off the subject here but....              My trust Zoom H2 hasn't worked for the last couple of years. It powers       on and boots up to the point where "system error" is revealed on the       screen. Any thoughts would be welcome for troubleshooting this.              If in the event I am unable to get the recorder working again, I may       invest in a used, updated model. Budget is very limited, so really hope       to get mine working again though.              One of their recorders that sparked my interest lately was the Zoom F2       field recorder. The big push behind it is recording in 32 bit and       therefore no audio settings are needed because they can be adjust later.        Since I've used nothing but my H2, I am unfamiliar with this claim.       If true, and say you had to really boost weak nature sound volume later,       wouldn't you also still have to content with the inherent background       noise from the recorder amps also being boosted? Maybe in the 15+ years       since initial H2 purchase, noise in amps is no longer an issue. Well,       the F2 was just one possibility but there are probably better ones for       both nature and voice that are cheaper. I was always satisfied with the       H2's frequency response for anything I recorded with it.              Your thoughts welcome on these topics. Thanks in advance.              Harv              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
