An old boss once told me to smear a cut potato on the windshield,
let it dry, then buff off. I never tried it.
I quit using rain repellents years ago and prefer wipers.
Windshield rain repellents are somewhat ok if the clouded out sun is
overhead or behind you and the rain is heavy, and at night if there are
absolutely no streetlights or oncoming car lights. Repellents AND
   wipers don't mix well.
