   How long did you have the batteries out for? You need to have them out   
   overnight or longer so that the offending capacitor can have time to discharge   
   itself. Then put NEW batteries in and all should be fine. Always remove the   
   batteries from the scanner    
   when you have finished with it, and it will work next time.
