I guess it works like some water-based glue. It       will harden to seal the leak but remain liquid inside the tire. It is       recommended by the manufacturer to have the tire professionally patched       within 3 days (I guess it is the company protecting against lawsuits). I       read many customer comments that it stopped their slow leak.
