   i don't know about the pois since i don't use those at all (and for   
   apple's maps they're a crapshoot if they're correct anyway).   
      
   routes require a query to the server, so you will need connectivity to   
   request or change one, but if you have a route, it can remain on the   
   device, along with map data.

   you won't find much for free that's any good.   
      
   map data is not cheap.   
      
   fortunately there are some very good paid options.
