Yeas ago, I was stuck on a highway back east, and changing
a tire, and I was appalled (and scared) at how close the
cars (and especially the trucks) passed by me at high
   speed.

It even seemed that the truckers purposefully passed me far
too closely than they needed to (but maybe I was imagining
that because I have no photographic proof).

However, ever since then, I change lanes (if I safely can)
EVERY time I see a motorist pulled over to the side on the
   highway.

My wife keeps asking why I do that, and I tell her that I
myself have been in that situation and I would have wanted
the cars to do the same.
