   Buttons for unnecessary equipment all over the steering wheel are only   
   slightly better than having them elsewhere. You're still distracted   
   even if your hands are still on the wheel.   
      
   Voice controls are slightly better again ... assuming the system can   
   actually understand you and doesn't open the trunk while driving along   
   at 100mph or suddenly turn off traction control, intead of simply   
   turning the volume up.   
      
      
   On a side note, it has always struck me as silly that car radios do not   
   have an automatic volume control that inceases as the car speeds up and   
   decreases as it slows down to account for things like tyre noise.
