Imagine if everyone did that all the time - then the hazard lights would
become useless for their original purpose.

It is just like increasing vehicle size to "improve safety" - if
everyone was driving 5-ton giant SUV's, no one would be better off in
collisions between the two, while the downside to other road users would
   be significant.

Daytime running lights on cars and trucks should be banned, and
manufacturers should have to recall the vehicles originally equipped
   with them for retro-fitting.
