Or if you are not careful reading the fine print, they tow your       car in the blink of        an eye. The most important deterrent is missing though: THE SPEEDING CAMERA.       >        >        >        > I did drive for a week in California a couple of decades back. Actually I       thought the American drivers relatively disciplined, driving without much       panache but less courtesy than you'll find in the UK.              California is a world apart. You as a pedestrian step on the street at the       corner, and drivers kindly stop for you. There were some freeway shootings       years ago but that may be considered a freak occurrence. They still are       missing the single most        important road manner, passing on the outer lane only.       >        >        >        > If you want to see anarchy on the roads though, try southern Europe or       Africa. Thessaloniki particularly impressed me for people driving on horn and       brakes.              I know Canary islands, not part of Europe but European manners. Some drivers       are very aggressive (those GTI's lent to it) but not criminal. You see       criminal intent in many drivers here.       >        >        >        > People ignore road markings and make up their own lanes, so your slow       vehicle lane would be ignored.              You wouldn't think highly of Greece either. But if it happens, blame it on the       authorities. Still you have a fair chance of surviving a crash with a car your       same size, not a behemoth SUV.        >        >        >        > Speed cameras, of which we have lots, cause the traffic to slow only as it       passes the camera, which probably causes as many accidents as it prevents.       >        >        >        > My sat nav beeps at me every time I approach one, and tells me how much I       need to slow down.              That's because you KNOW where they are. You are not supposed to know that.              Do the terrorists and thieves know where the cameras are?        >        >        >        > People going the other way flash you to warn you of cops with radar guns       lurking in driveways.              Who needs those Keystone cops? Let's use technology. Hide the cameras while       avoiding fees that are clearly predatory. They hit you with a $158 ticket for       slightly moving past the line at the red light. It's not running the red light       at all. In Chicago it'       s only 100 bucks. Chicago is also implementing the speed cameras and removing       some ineffective red light cameras.              And Christians must remember Jesus is watching.               --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
