   I have mirrors on some of my bicycles, but they often distract you and make   
   you think a particular car is going to hit you. In reality you are a sitting   
   duck with the driver totally in control of the road. As you say, the mirror   
   also lets you when to    
   take the lane.   
      
   The most important role for the mirror though is to keep track of my   
   girlfriend behind. Couples should be allowed to share the lane next to each   
   other. I think it's cruel not to allow it.
