   Think about it: We should have worried about losing our manufacturing to China   
   --and we didn't. Why worry about this? Detroit is already in the dumps and   
   traffic jams are a nightmare in America. Not much to lose, so to speak.   
      
   What will happen if we welcome the bicycle AND other transportation   
   alternatives? We will adapt and create new technologies. Some technologies are   
   out there but cheap gas won't help it either. Gas must cost more, much more.   
   Cars must become smaller.    
   Fracking is only a temporary thing, the last effort to provide cheap gas.   
      
   I don't think we should aim to replace the car as much as reduce our   
   dependence on it. The bike should be the first choice when doing 2-3 miles. We   
   already have very negative campaigns against tobacco, so we could warn people   
   about the dangers of driving.   
       
      
   Quality of life would be up, not down. Our obesity pandemic is life   
   threatening. New technologies would explode. Old technologies out. The bicycle   
   gave rise women liberation. The car is oppressive sometimes. Bicycling must be   
   supported with metro rail    
   systems to reach many more destinations. Many things are wrong in Miami but   
   that train really works and you bring your bicycles on board.   
      
   First we must put a stop to the massive drain of corruption and get to work on   
   a national strategy. The strategy must put diversification as the first   
   priority. Our dependence on the car is fatally flawed.   
      
   I think it's time to say something clever: "There's nothing to fear but fear   
   itself." Did I hear that before?
