   Nice of the RSGB to give such prominence to yet another success for   
   Korolev's R7 design. Now approaching some 2000 launches, it's seen off   
   the best that the US can produce.   
      
   When the USSR collapsed, the US went on a shopping spree, and in one   
   facility they discovered rows and rows of ready-to-use rocket engines   
   using metallurgy beyond anything the US had, and were staggered to find   
   these engines were /closed-cycle/, another technology the US had   
   struggled with. They bought the lot, and the engines powered 'US'   
   rockets for some time.
