   It worked ok on most variants of Microsoft Basic of those days, and   
   some others, but I remember that the Sinclair Basic was quite different   
   so maybe it could not join that club...   
      
   Some people (Jonathan Marcks, Joop Engels) made a study of the lowest   
   common denominator of all those Basic versions and published a document   
   that described the language constructs that could safely be used.   
      
   And there was a kind of "function library" specific to each computer   
   that implemented nonportable things like clear screen, move cursor etc.
