   One evening in roughly mid-2000, a colleague and I were walking from   
   the Granta pub towards the Sala Thong Thai restaurant on Newnham Road   
   in Cambridge. It was beginning to get dark and suddenly a whirring   
   noise was heard followed by us having to jump sideways as a figure in a   
   wheelchair passed between us at some speed. A couple of seconds later a   
   familiar robotic voice said "So-rry!" as we were grinning and resuming
