   Sure, there are large numbers of CBers-masquerading-as-radio-amateurs   
   with their completely pointless DXing and contesting, but those are   
   completely   
   pointless precisely because they are aspects of CB Radio, that is, buying   
   ready-made equipment off-the-shelf and being unable to repair and maintain   
   it themselves.   
      
   Those pioneers of a century ago who laid the foundations of amateur radio   
   must be turning in theor graves at the crass consumerism that infests today.
