As        always, you never know - "Work First Worry Later" (WFWL).              3XY, GUINEA. Leo, 3XY1L, continues to be active. This past week he was       mainly on 15 meters usually between 21280-21285 kHz (sometimes lower around       21208 kHz) as early as 1230z and as late as 1900z. He has also been heard       on 7060 kHz after 2100z. QSL via UY5XE.              5H, TANZANIA (Help Needed). Paul/K1XM (5H1F) and Charlotte/KQ1F will be       active and will try to have many radio club students at Dar es Salaam       Institute of Technology (DIT) join them in this year's CQWW SSB Contest       as 5I3A. They will be a Multi-Multi entry. Charlotte and Paul will arrive a       few days early, set up stations, and start educating students as they have       time. Paul figures they will need to teach a bit of geography, propagation,       operating, contest rules, how to use the contesting software, strategy,       pile-up handling, phonetics, etc.... They will have three radios with       them. They will bring extra headphones and splitters, so they can operate       with the students listening and then swap off and have a student operate       while they listen. However, Paul is looking for other "stuff" and some       ideas. They don't have enough headsets. Does anyone have a Heil headset       they are interested in selling? This is a good opportunity to buy a new       Proset + and unload your old set. They could also use a stand-alone voice       keyer or two. He is also in need of some ideas for antennas. The existing       log periodic is a good start, but he needs enough for six bands and three       radios. Any aluminum must fit in a 4' golf club carrying case. He thinks       they will be using the top of a building. Rotators are probably too heavy.       If someone is interested in joining this operation, that is a possibility.       The safari opportunities in Tanzania are incredible. Check out the following       Web page to see some of the photos Paul and Charlotte took during their       2001 operation. They plan to leave the antennas and enough accessories       that the TS-140S can be used as a contest station. Paul states, "There       are a group of college students who were enthusiastic enough that they       got licenses. They are young and learn fast. If our operation is succesful       we hope that the DIT club will continue to operate in contests and the       members will be comfortable getting on the air." If you can help Paul       out with accessories/antennas, send an E-mail to: youngp@hp.com              5W, SAMOA. By the time you read this, look for operators 9A6XX, M0GMT,       K9YO, N1SNB and 9K2RR to be active from now through August 14th. Their       callsigns were not yet known as this was being typed. They will have two       stations active with activity on 160-6 meters, SSB, CW, RTTY and PSK31.       QSL via N1SNB.              7Q, MALAWI. Nick, G4FAL, will be on a family holiday and will be active       during short periods as 7Q7NT from Blantyre, August 13-30th. Most of his       activity will be mainly on 20 and 15 meters CW/SSB.              8Q, MALDIVES. Uwe, DJ9HX, will be active as 8Q7HX from Lhaviyani Atoll,       now through August 16th. Activity will be on 40-10 meters. QSL via his       home callsign. E-mail requests for bureau cards are welcome by sending       QSO info to: dj9hx@darc.de              BQ9P, PRATAS ISLAND. The Chinese Taipei Amateur Radio League (CTARL) is       planning to head back to Pratas Island in coming October. Paul, BV4FH,       reports that they need 4 experienced foreign operator for this DXpedition.       If anyone is interested, please contact Paul, BV4FH, as soon as possible       for more details and freight schedule arrangements for Pratas Island.       His E-mail address is: bv4fh@ms2.hinet.net              CO0, CUBA (Special Event). Look for special event station CO0R to be on       the air from Santiago de Cuba City, August 9-10th, to celebrate the 150th       anniversary of the birth of Cuban national hero Jose Marti. Activity       will be on CW, SSB and digital modes (bands of activity were not provided).       All QSLs will be sent automtically via bureau.              FG, GUADELOUPE. A group of Spanish operators will be active from here       between September 23rd and October 9th. Activity will include an entry       in the CQWW RTTY Contest. Before and after the contest, operators will       be on SSB/RTTY/PSK31/SSTV. Operators will be EB2DTP, EA2RU and EA2RY.       Look for them to sign homecall/FG or FG/homecall. QSL via EA2RY.              IOTA NEWS......................        EU-030. Ric, DL2VFR, will be active as OZ/DL2VFR from Bornholm Island        (BO-001 for the Danish Islands Award) between now and August        15th. Activity will be mainly CW on the HF bands with some        SSB and 6 meters. QSL via his home callsign, direct or bureau.                     [continued in next message]              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
