   Wheeler took a lot of heat for the decision.   
      
   Wheeler had tried to justify the decision by stating that that since   
   studies have shown there's no evidence of cellular interference concerns   
   with airplane systems (long the justification for the ban), FCC's authority   
   no longer applied and the restriction was no longer necessary.
