Open-source Renegade has its pro's and con's.

Sure, anyone can contribute to it, but the project can easily be led into a 
direction that sortof goes against the original design of the software... 
tacking on all sorts of crap that it doesn't need, or deciding to gut the code
for dialup modems. Or worse, having people working on it with absolutely no 
background or no clue in how BBS software is supposed to operate.
