   Doesn't a nuclear fuel rod (or a firecracker) lose mass when it   
   delivers energy?   
      
   Two gamma rays (zero mass total) can collide to produce a particle   
   pair (which has mass.)   
      
   After the collision, the particles create gravitational attraction to   
   everything else in the universe. That spreads out from the new mass at   
   the speed of light.
