   The other problems with "coding standards" include:   
   - many shops don't have them   
   - they are often not rigorously enforced (code reviews?  ha!)   
   - they often reflect the beliefs of a small group of individuals   
   - they are often inappropriate for an application/domain   
   - they are considered a panacea

   Just hire better people rather than trying to "fix" the efforts   
   of subgrade performers.
