To revive such       projects, one of my colleagues claims he typically has to       totally rewrite it.              Typically a masters' project works for a few months, then falls       victim to bit-rot.              A program that is the result of a PhD in CS typically has a longer lifespan.              Though I have heard that computer programs associated with       PhDs in physics may be more like demo-ware.
