   Police use Taser on 80-year-old Alzheimer's patient

   FAIRFIELD -- Fairfield police say they were forced to use a Taser on an   
   80-year-old dementia patient.   
      
   Police were called around 4:30 p.m. Saturday to a report of a man with   
   Alzheimer's disease who was trying to attack his elderly wife with a knife   
   inside their Ambassador Drive home.   
      
   When officers arrived, the man apparently was experiencing cognition problems   
   as a result of his dementia, and would not put down the knife. Police hit the   
   man with a Taser to subdue him.   
      
   He was taken to Mercy Health - Fairfield Hospital as a precaution. Hospital   
   staff checked the man, and said he was not harmed by the Taser, police said.
