   Report: State closes home that cared for dementia patients

   NEW BERN, N.C. -   
   A report says a state agency quickly closed a home that cared for people with   
   dementia because the patients lived in squalor, including urine and feces on   
   clothing.   
      
   The Sun Journal of New Bern reported officials with Courtyards at Berne   
   Village Memory Care say they plan management changes, improvements to the   
   property and a heightened level of training and attention to patient needs.   
      
   The report from the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services said urine   
   and feces also were found on linens and furniture.   
      
   The report says one resident fell up to 32 times over three months, resulting   
   in a terminal diagnosis by a physician.   
      
   Families were notified late on March 20 that they had to find new care for the   
   patients immediately.
