   On This Day: Las Vegas shooting leaves 58 dead   
   On Oct. 1, 2017, a gunman on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort and   
   Casino in Las Vegas opened fire on a crowd attending a country music festival   
   outside, killing 58 people and injuring hundreds of others.   
      
   The gun lobby fought long and hard for his right to keep and bear arms.
