In Finland, bats are protected. You are not allowed to interfere with
their business even in your own home:

Bats have been protected as endangered species in this country and
trying to kill or remove them or altering their resting places or
blocking their access to them is a punishable act.

Even if you left bats alone in the attic, it is punishable to block
their access to their hanging beams because bats return to the same
place every year and thus even unoccupied resting places are
      protected.

If you are aware of bats that use your attic as their resting place,
you must contact the environment authorities before applying any
anti-insect or anti-rodent pesticide that could harm bats.
