   Instinct is too broad a characterization, though, as it infers they are   
   using something undiscernable.  More likely, they are able to naturally   
   detect something we aren't, and if we can figure out what it is, then we   
   can also fly out of the way.   
      
   The seismologists talk about P and U waves, I think, but birds are   
   clearly picking up on something that's neither of the above.  Wonder   
   what it is?
