I think that'll happen when the food supply shrinks - oil is woven through
the entire modern food supply chain (electricity is still mostly generated
   from natural gas and coal):

   - soil aggitation and irrigation (gasoline and electricity)
   - pesticides and fertilizer (oil and nat. gas)
   - processing, transport and packaging (oil, gasoline and diesel)
   - presentation and storage (electricity)
   - consumption (electricity and nat. gas)

As energy gets more costly so will all of life's necessities. I expect to
see a whole lot more locally grown food and, at a minimum, a re-purposing
of urban areas so as to reduce the need for importation. There will be
more utilization of solar and wind but they'll likely never come close
to replacing the energy density and portability of fossil fuels. The
history of the techno-fix isn't particularly positive.
