   Well, it is a start. I don't know if the OP is just a hobbyist   
   looking for something simple, or someone more skilled who has   
   the ability to design a lens system.   
      
   For myself and my level of knowledge, I know it can be done.   
   I suspect to get the best performance would require at minimum   
   a two lens design, if not more. I'd probably go snag the free   
   version of Zemax and give myself a crash course on lens design,   
   and try to use stock lenses from a catalog like Edmund Sci or   
   other lens manufacturer. I'd also probably end up bugging everyone   
   here with a bunch of questions.
