   The end application is basically a transmission measurement of a 96-well   
   microplate. The fiber is used when moving the reading head in X-direction,   
   the plates move in the Y direction. Wish I could get rid of it, but moving the   
   whole source+detector system with the temperature controls etc. might be   
   difficult.   
      
   The multiple LEDs come from the requirement of wideband source (white LED+   
   a few to fill in 360nm-400, 430-500 and 780nm).   
      
   We had problems focusing all the LEDs to fiber end with simple plastic   
   optics, would a small integrating sphere lose a lot of light ?
