   I apologize, I had responded to the wrong poster: Might it be possible   
   to combine the different wavelength LED's using either a grating or   
   prism to reduce them to one single source? Adding in a broadband   
   white LED would throw this scheme off, but you might still be able   
   to achieve white if the LED's overlapped enough.
