Got a new to me Cary 5, with an old WINUV ver 2 PC software. I had
tremendous noise on it, reseating most connections made it get a lot
better. But, I wonder what kind of performance I should be expecting.

For a scan which has a 100% baseline ref, scanned in dual beam mode,
from 175 to 3300nm, what kind of deviations should I see from 100% T?

I see noise around +/- 1 or 2 percent in the 175 to 1500nm range, but
huge amounts of noise (increasing with wavelength) from 1500 to 3300nm.
Is this normal in the IR range?

My baseline scan has some very noticeable jumps at some crossover
points- should it? I suspect I could make some adjustments to improve
this; where can I get a service manual?

If I let it run all the time to keep it more stable (and manually turn
the lamps off), will my sensor (pmt or IR) life be used up, or do they
   last a really long time?

   Thanks!
