   Hi, Jim.
The product of time and energy is quantized, as is the product of distance
   and momentum.

It seems we live in a Universe that has a maximum speed limit and a minimum
resolution. This is exactly how one would arrange a system that is optimized
for calculations. Are we living in a simulation? If so, how would you tell?
Many of the "laws" of nature are emergent; that is, they cannot be predicted
from first principles. An example is the rigidity of a steel beam, which is
not a property of the iron atoms themselves, but only a property of the
   collection of atoms. Which
first principle predicts the rigidity of materials? Where does this property
   come from?
We create simulations of the Universe inside our machines, and presumably, if
we created a sufficiently complex simulation, it could create a simulation of
its own. So, how far are we from the bottom? It may be turtles all the way
   down to a minimum
calculation for us, but is that true all the way up?
