detection. I have a water sample I am measuring ppm pollution of a species in.
I can synchro detect the transmission - that's not a problem. But the signal
is way down in the noise.
Exactly how can I get it out?

Well either increase the signal or reduce the noise, grin :^)
Hey you might also want to check out sci.electronics.design Lots of smart
people there too. (Though there is a lot more name calling, political stuff,
and other banter not related to electronics.)

So more seriously, can you see the signal with ppt levels of pollution?
What's the source of the noise?
(What's the light source, how do you modulate, frequency... etc. It's hard to
help without knowing a lot of details. (and even then I may not be of much
   help.)
   What's the detector?
