   Because there isn't any 578-nm emission from the orange LEDs.  You have   
   to have some light there before filtering helps. ;)

   Nothing very exciting--it's just trying to sort out a small haemoglobin   
   bump on top of _huge_ slope due to protoporphyrin.  The protoporphyrin   
   absorption can be 99.9% at the haemoglobin wavelength, which makes life   
   a little bit exciting.
