   Look at Fechner and his works. He has connections to Goethe. You   
   could say these guys were "ontological psychologists," and to   
   give you perspective, they were reacting to the reductionism   
   of Newtonian science. Also Wm James, a major figure here. For a modern   
   perspective, look at HL Stapp, The Mindful Universe. Stapp is a quantum   
   physicist who has solid credentials as a scientist. I'd start with Stapp   
   and work backwards, myself.   
      
   And, stay away from mind-altering drugs. I'm not saying this is the case with   
    you   
   just worth saying. Anyone who has a history of mind-altering drugs should   
   de-tox in a program like AA, as the side effects of this type of research must   
   be overcome, as the results come with a heavy price.
