   Interferogram is just FTIR speak.  It's what they call the raw data that comes   
   from the detector.  You might think of it as the auto-correlation fucntion of   
   the signal... but it's in position space rather than the time domain.   
   Most of the interferogram is just the light source.  To see some additional   
   small absorption feature in the sample you end up taking the difference of the   
   spectrum with and with out the absorption present.
