There is an easy test to determine whether a perpetual-motion machine
really works: have the inventors become rich as a result? If not, they
are crackpots. A perpetual-motion machine could be used to produce
electricity, which could be put into the national grid in return for
money (many countries require power companies to buy all electricity
   produced by individuals).
