It is a common term used when a cite has already been presented.

No, you expressed your lack of understanding/education. Nothing
   more.

    Another lame joke.
Not to suggest my jokes are any better.

   >I can also assure you that in grammar school that word was never used,

It was when I was young. And each of my children learned of it
when being taught the different means of citing sources. Each learned
in eighth grade. I first learned of it outside of school when I was
around 12. But I was 13 or 14 when it was taught to me, and the rest
   of the class, in school.

   >unless, perhaps in some religious school.

It is very probable it is taught in religious schools as well.
But I never attended one. My children attended public school.

   >I would love to see you in a
   >teachers quiz or test answer some of their questions with that answer.

You surely did see such questions, though I wasn't involved. It's
not as if the education system made special curriculum for me and/or
my children, forcing others in their classes to learn as well.
It is far more probable that you either forgot what you were
taught, or you were in a special class for those with learning
disabilities and not taught. It's not possible for me to know which is
the case, though your posts make me think it's the former.
