   Volcanoes are climate COOLERS.   
      
   So first they darken the sky. Maybe not everywhere -- unless they're big   
   enough -- but they don't have to. Where they darken the sky it gets   
   cooler. So rain falls where it ordinarily wouldn't fall. So you get a   
   drought in those places where the rain would have fallen absent the   
   volcano...   
      
   Next, volcanoes spew a lot of sulfur. And it's sulfur that's the real   
   killer because it converts into an aerosol and bounces energy from the   
   sun back out into space, so it never reaches us.   
      
   There's actually LESS energy from the sun!
