But I also know what REAL       science believes, and that's volcanic activity sparking your       extinction event.              Volcanoes actually /Cool/ the earth, btw. When Toba exploded       over 70k years ago it threw the planet earth into a global       winter. Most human life died. We came very near becoming extinct       ourselves!               ...temperatures in the northern hemisphere plummet maybe       20F, and it took well over a thousand years to recover!              The southern hemisphere and the equator recover more rapidly,       obviously...              So you can imagine the huge clouds billowing out of a volcano       and you can extrapolate that... orders of magnitude larger       volcano throwing orders of magnitude more of that "Cloud" into       the sky...              Over an extended period of time, what's going to live? All life       comes from the sun.              NOTE: A much smaller than Toba volcano erupted over 40k years       ago, and one researcher claims that most plants in the northern       hemisphere stopped producing pollen for like a year...              But even a thousand years is very short term in geologic time,       isn't it? And it's not like if Toba took a thousand years to       clear then 2x Toba would take over 2,000 years. I don't think       it works that way. You can check with a volcanologist but, sulfur       and particulates don't really know that there's other sulfur &       particulates and they need to wait their turn.              It's been FOREVER, but I'm pretty sure it's similar to how the       blast zone of a nuclear weapon does NOT grow directly in       proportion to the yield. This is why the U.S. always concentrated       on smaller & smaller weapons, btw. You could cause far more       destruction by dropping more than one small weapon than one large       one.              But, hey, sulfur likes to come down as Acid Rain, don't it? And       the ocean needs to be alkaline. If it's not, things like shells       just kind of dissolve.              Not good for fish, either.              And it eats the ozone.                                                               --       https://jtem.tumblr.com/tagged/The%20Book%20of%20JTEM/page/5              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
