Mercury is the closest planet to our       Sun, but it has no atmosphere. Being so close to our star, however, its       noon temperatures are quite high at 430°C; however, when the Sun sets on       Mercury, its temperatures start to plummet, and at local midnight, some       44 Earth days later (and indeed, until dawn), its temperatures have       dropped to -180°C.              Venus, on the other hand, has an atmosphere like our World, Earth, but       unlike Earth, Venus has experienced a runaway greenhouse effect, and due       to massive amounts of CO2 gas, the noon temperature on Venus is around       460-470°C, but since Venus has an atmosphere, its local midnight       temperatures, which occur 29 Earth days after the Sun has set on that       World, only drop a few degrees due almost entirely to the large presence       of carbon dioxide gas into Venus' atmosphere. This is also the reason       why the temperatures at Venus' poles are almost identical to the       temperatures at its equator.              Conclusion: Increasing amounts of carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas,       will cause temperatures on our World, Earth, to increase. This is a       scientific fact, no different than The Law of Falling Bodies. You can       deny such if you wish, just as you can claim that the South won the       American Civil War.              Dawn              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
