   Landing a human on Venus would be pointless.  Even bots can't survive   
   very long there.   
      
   The night side is kept toasty by howling winds all around the planet.   
      
   It likely had surface water and a climate suitable for life until a   
   billion years ago.  Then came the runaway CO2 greenhouse heating.   
   There's a lesson there for the non-idjits.

   NASA also sent landers and orbiters.  The Magellan orbiter mapped the   
   whole surface of the planet.
