   Where is OUR money?   
      
   Here is the breakdown of the money involved in the Employee Retention Credit   
   (ERC) scandal through 2024:   
      
   The Money That Went Out   
      
   Total Payouts: As of 2024, the IRS has paid out approximately $230 billion in   
   ERC claims since the program's inception.   
      
   The "Fraud" Estimate: The IRS and government watchdogs estimate that a   
   significant portion of the claims filed between 2021 and 2023 were ineligible   
   or fraudulent, with some estimates suggesting $25 billion to $40 billion (or   
   more) was paid out incorrectly to "ERC Mills" and scammers.

   The Money They Got Back (and "Saved") 2025 to 2026   
      
   Recovered through Audits/Criminal Cases: The IRS has recovered roughly $2   
   billion to $5 billion through direct seizures, criminal restitution (like the   
   cases we discussed), and audits.   
      
   Voluntary Disclosure Program: In 2024 and 2025, the IRS offered a   
   "settlement" for businesses that realized they were scammed into filing. This   
   program brought back over $1.2 billion.   
      
   Clawbacks and Denials: By freezing the program in late 2023/2024, the IRS   
   "saved" the government an estimated $5 billion to $10 billion in fraudulent   
   claims that were filed but never paid out.
