   instances were the earth has undergone sudden and massive

   Google A.I. pretends that Europe has seen "Severe" droughts   
   in recent years, but there's been absolutely nothing that   
   compares to the most severe in recorded history, all tied to   
   volcanic activity or sun spots.   
      
   "Drought" is caused by cold, btw.   
      
   Cold air can't hold as much moisture. So if you cool things   
   off more so than normal somewhere -- anywhere -- the air   
   loses it's moisture, which means that moisture is not going   
   to be carried to where ever it usually went... so they don't   
   get rain.

   The Holocene is roughly 15,000 years old if you adjust for   
   the Younger Dryas cooling.   
      
   Recorded history goes back about 5,000 years.
