   There's no alternative to fossil fuels at our present level of   
   technology.   
      
   The only source of energy with any hope of replacing fossil fuels   
   also happens to be the most dangerous:  Geothermal.   
      
   Yellowstone alone holds back a (conservatively estimated) energy   
   equivalent to roughly 100,000 nuclear weapons. Tap into that   
   energy and you can power all of North America's grid, charge an   
   unlimited number of EVs.   
      
   Your classic nuclear power plant is really just a steam powered   
   plant, using nuclear power to generate the steam. So Yellowstone   
   could provide the energy to power just as many steam plants as   
   you can fit.   
      
   24/7 unlimited power...   
      
   And if you prick the bubble that is the Yellowstone caldera,   
   touching off and eruption, you can end western civilization   
   overnight. It would result in a global "Volcanic Winter."   
   The equator then the southern hemisphere would clear first,   
   return to normal, which the northern hemisphere can expect   
   to maybe take a thousand years or more before returning to   
   normal....   
      
   Might even kick off the next glacial period, btw. "Glacial   
   Maximum" during the last so called "Ice Age" does align   
   nicely with a super volcanic eruption, albeit nowhere near   
   as big as Yellowstone will be...   
      
   There are a number of other super volcanoes which, like   
   Yellowstone, are active right now, all of which could   
   produce unlimited power, all of which could effectively end   
   western civilization overnight....   
      
   But that's it. There's geothermal and then there's... nothing.
