   There's a point where you do a go/no-go check.  I'm pretty sure that   
   you can find this in the Apollo transcripts (and video/audio where   
   that's available).  How close that is to landing depends on your   
   ability to abort a landing; Apollo would have had to abort with the   
   Descent Stage still attached, because AIUI you couldn't drop the   
   descent stage very quickly.   
      
   But I'm having trouble coming up with a scenario where you're going to   
   use a lot more fuel than you calculated before departing the Gateway.   
      
   (reverse the sequence if you have in situ fuel preparation mining the   
   ice in the shadows)
